SME Lead Learning Disabilities Nursing
Mark is looking forward to another year continuing his new role as the SME Lead in Learning Disabilities Nursing for ACER UK working with the NMC. which finishes in 2026. This year the focus moves to developing OCSE’s for the overseas nursing programmes as well as completing more work on Learning Disabilties Examination Questions.
New Chair of Professional Standards
Mark is the New Chair of Professional Standards & Ethics Commitee of the Rehabiltation Workers Professional Network RWPN
Mark took on the role in October 2024 and is looking forward to working with the Commitee and management team over the next couple of years as it grows its membership and body of work.
Training In New Zealand for Visual Impairment Professionals
Mark has just completed a series of on line training workshops for Blind Low Vision Services New Zealand through a deal with Oculus Rehab service. The participants came from a wide area across North and South island and had bespoke training on Brain Injuries and SightLoss, Dementia & Sight Loss and Medication Risk Assesment.
The courses were well received by the participants who attended the time differences were a little challenging on the UK side but overall worked well and its hoped we can extend this service to the USA Canada and Austrailia in Future as well as more courses for New Zealand.
Gemma Bromley Joins our Team of Associates
Gemma Bromley of Sight Scotland joins us as a co- trainer on Brain Injury & sight Loss. Gemma is the author of Half a Head which details her incredible recovery from serious brain injury to her current life today. Gemma made her debut with us online with the New Zealand Workshops in November 2024 and will be joining us on some of our on line and Face to face events in 2025. We are really looking forward to her involvement on these courses.
She brings a personal look at the challenges faced by people with severe head injuries and the on going issues that she still faces day to day. As well as detailing her own sight loss experiences both as a person who has experienced it but as professional working in the field with people who have sight loss and complex needs.
Goodbye to Home Care Direct
Mark is finishing his role as one of the Nurse Assessor team at Home Care Direct after 17 years working with the company in December 2024.
“It has been great to stay in professional practice with people and families and I will miss it greatly but changes at the company recently have made things difficult for me to continue in a sustainable way for them and for MGA.”
I will continue to promote and work with them whenever the opportunity arises, but its time really to say goodbye to this chapter of my work.
Hungary Beckons!
Mark is to be a keynote speaker at the Nursing Practice Conference in Budapest Hungary on the 15th & 16th September 2025
Where he will talk about the prevalence, and detection of CVI in people with a learning disability.

New Learning Disability Practice CPD Article on CVI & Sight loss
Mark Gray features in the latest RCNI Publication Learning Disability Practice. With a continuing practice development article on Cortical Visual Impairment. The Article is now online from January 2023 having completed the peer review process.
This is Mark’s first publication for nearly six years, following his participation in book chapters in the 2016 Pavilion Publication on Health needs of people with Learning Disabilities. For more articles, books, and chapters that Mark has been involved with. Go to our publications page here
