Dementia and Sight loss Training

A one day course designed for social care staff working or supporting people with Dementia.

This includes home carers, Rehabilitation Officers (Visual Impairment), OT’s,  Nurses and other professionals.

The course is 7 hours duration, and covers many types of dementia. Such as Alzheimer’s, Infarct dementia’s and Multi Infarct Dementias, Lewy Body’s, Binswanger’s, Parkinson’s disease related Dementia, Pick’s and CJD.

Course Content

You  will look at the  causes and current treatment & support available.

Additionally the course will look at  complex issues caused by Dementia and sight loss. How this  may  affect  the design of support, assessment and the ability to  develop and maintain a healthy life.

The impact of sight loss

You will understand how sight loss may contribute to visual hallucinations.

How  conditions such as Cerebral Visual Impairment CVI, greatly affects a persons ability to understand what they are seeing.

Understand how this may heighten the effect and degree of Dementia the person is experiencing.

Another important aspect of this  course is that it  will also look at the sight conditions related to the ageing process.

Essential training as Dementia and sight loss are rarely put together as a condition but is more common than you might realise.

These include  cataracts, macular disease, diabetic related eye conditions, refraction issues and how these impact on everyday tasks.

Essentially this  will greatly improve your  communication support for people living with this condition.

It will  provide you with ideas, for better, safer, and easier to use environmental design for people with dementia and sight loss.

The course explores the additional signs of sensory deterioration to look out for.

These maybe indicating sight loss,  or hearing loss such as Presbyacusis and other common symptoms of a dual diagnosis and how you can get further support.

This in turn will help you to develop and change your practice more effectively.

This course is offered In house for up to twenty people at a venue of your choosing for £800 INC VAT
