Visual Function Assessment Workhops

Visual Function Assessment Workshops

This is an initiative with the RWPN  to design a Standard National Framework  for  Visual Functional Assessments. Following work with Rehabilitation Worker’s over the past twenty years it has become apparent the the FVA process is very varied and does not always cover the needs of those with Dementia and or learning disabilities. Developments in lighting have also thrown up further anomalies in the teaching of this fundamental skill.

The Visual function  assessment workshops are designed to cover the essential building blocks of the process with additional information on assessing non verbal clients and assessing their vision. The Workshop will also link the assessment to tasks, vision level, and environmental considerations.

Looking at unfamiliar and familiar assessment  methods/Lighting impact, timing impacts, and  introduction of variation to your analytical skills.

Interview techniques, and linking  assessment to outcomes and signposting (Safeguarding/Mental health/ GP medical)

Looking at dynamic assessment methods and recording further information and review especially impact review tools. Important to justify future resources.

The  Assessment workshops will also elicit best practice from existing practitioners to share with other colleagues to be incorporated into a final standards document produced by MGA with the RWPN in 2022 and to be made available to all participants of the programme.
